The TestsYou must have a Provisional Driving License before you drive on a public road. You can apply for this by clicking here. Once you have your license you can start to have driving lessons. The next step is the theory and hazard perception test. You can start having lessons before you take this test, or you can take the test before you start driving lessons. You can prepare for these tests using the many books, Computer programmes, apps and videos which are widely available. Your instructor will be pleased to help you with this if you wish. The theory testis 57 minutes long and in that time you have to answer 43 out of 50 questions correctly by using a touch screen computer to pass. The questions are taken from the DSA's bank of 1200 questions. The hazard perception teststarts after you have completed the theory test, which will have an example showing you how to complete the test. The object is to identify the 15 hazards as quickly as possible from 14 video clips (out of a possible 200 video clips available to the DSA). The earlier you spot the developing hazard the more points you get, up to 5 per hazard. You must score at least 44 out of 75 to pass. You must pass both parts of the theory test at the same to time to pass the test. You will then be awarded with your pass certificate, which you will need to book a practical test. On average, most people take around 40-45 hours of professional tuition (and around half that again of private practice) before they pass their Practical driving testYou are ready for your practical test when you can:
