One of the most common questions we get asked is what if I fail my LGV test?
Whilst it can be extremely disappointing it is not the end of the world, although it might feel like it.
Different training companies will have different procedures for retests. Some will allow you to meet them at the test centre and just take the test again. Others will provide a short warm up session to give you time to clean up any faults and get used to driving a lorry again before retaking your test.
There is a much higher success rate for drivers who take a remedial training or warm up session than those who just go straight for the test again. It’s likely that your retest will be a few weeks after your initial test, if you’ve not driven a lorry in that time it makes perfect sense to have at least a short session before your retest so you can get used to the different driving characteristics of an LGV again.
If you fail your LGV driving test you can book another driving one immediately. You cannot take the test for another 3 working days, not including the day you took the first test.
This is to allow you time to practice your driving and put right the faults that caused you to fail your first test.
Some companies will offer a “pass protection” type scheme, where you pay more when you initially book, but your course includes one or two attempts at a retest. Whilst this can sound reassuring, you may not get any money back if you do pass first time. Be sure to read the terms of anything like this very carefully to make sure it works for you.
There is no reason you should be expecting to fail if you choose a training company that prepares you well for the test and you have the correct course length.
